Family and Children
More often than not, it seems to me that I see the standard family portrait, shot in a studio, lighted rather flatly and photographed by an employee at the mall. To me a portrait is a special representation of the "feeling" of family. I prefer location-shot, environmental portraiture. I can and will shoot a studio portrait for any client that desires a very formal style of photograph. I simply prefer to capture the essence of the clients family. Often that is best done outdoors, using ambient light and the surroundings of a given setting. I myself have a family; a wife and a son. I fully understand the importance of a quality image to document the life of a treasured child.
Senior Pictures
This is also another area where the environmental concept has really set itself up as the standard. The graduating senior in the 21st Century is not interested in the traditional cap and gown portrait. The trend today is "lifestyle portraiture". Not only is it more demonstrative of the character and nature of the subject, I personally find this shoot more interesting and challenging. Cap and gown photos are also a normal part of this variety of package, but the focus is mainly on the subject in a natural setting.
